2024 Admission Guide for International Students
Fuzhou University of International Studies and Trade (FUIST), as a full-time regular undergraduate institution established upon the approval by the Ministry of Education, is the initiator and Vice Chairman of the National Alliance of Non-profit Private Colleges & Universities, and Executive Vice President of the Higher Education Professional Committee of China Private Education Association. FUIST also provides cooperative program for postgraduates along with other colleges and universities. Founded in 2004, FUIST was formerly known as Fuzhou Vocational and Technical College of International Studies and Trade. Its upgrade to a regular undergraduate institution in 2011 as approved by the Ministry of Education was followed by being qualified in the evaluation among regular institutions of higher education on undergraduate education by the Ministry of Education in 2018. The Monitoring Report on the Development Potential of Regular Institutions of Higher Education in Fujian Province of 2018, released by the Education Evaluation Research Center of Fujian Province, indicates that FUIST ranked first among private undergraduate colleges and universities in Fujian Province in terms of academic development potential, including resource integration, talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, comprehensive reputation, and related evaluation indicators. According to China University Rankings released by Cuaa.Net in the last two years, FUIST was continuously recognized as one of the six-star private colleges and universities in China, coming to the fourth place in the ranking of private colleges and universities in China in terms of comprehensive indicators while defending its first place in Fujian Province.
Changle, hailed as “a famous seaside area culturally abundant in literature”, is a district of Fuzhou City, the capital of Fujian Province, at which FUIST is located to cover an area of more than 2,400 mu, including a campus building area of over 650,000 square meters, teaching instruments and equipment of over RMB 14,000,000, a library collection of over 3.5 million volumes and over 160 teaching laboratories, in addition to about 400 off-campus training bases.
The pursuit of internationalized and open-up education drives FUIST to take multiple measures to strengthen educational exchanges and integration between Fujian and Taiwan. FUIST, being the first private university in Fujian Province to be qualified for enrolling international students, the first private university qualified for enrolling undergraduates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, one of the first batch of pilot colleges and universities to cooperate with Taiwan universities on education, holder of the title of overseas Chinese education base in Fujian Province, and the advanced unit of employing foreign cultural and educational experts in Fuzhou City, has been cooperating with more than 30 foreign high-level institutions. To actively respond to the “Belt and Road” Initiative of China, FUIST mainly recruits international students from countries along the “Belt and Road”, including more than 160 students from Morocco, Liberia, Guinea, Vietnam, Nepal, Laos, Mongolia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Cameroon and other countries along the “Belt and Road”, as well as United States.

III. Eligibility
1. Age:18-25 years old (as of September 1, 2024), be mentally and physically healthy, and possess a valid regular passport.
Note:
(1) Foreign citizens of Chinese origin, including former Chinese citizens who have obtained foreign citizenship, as well as the non-Chinese descendants of present or former Chinese citizens, will be subject to a preliminary review of citizenship status by FUIST during the admission stage, and to verification of citizenship by the entry and exit administration department of China’s public security authorities. Applicants who fail to pass the preliminary review or verification of citizenship will be deemed to have voluntarily relinquished their eligibility for admission, as well as the subsequent academic registration that they may obtain.
(2) In accordance with Article 5 of the Nationality Law of the People’s Republic of China, a person whose parents are both Chinese citizens and have both settled abroad, or one of whose parents is a Chinese citizen and has settled abroad, shall not have Chinese citizenship if he or she has acquired foreign citizenship at birth. Starting in 2021, if such a person applies to study in a bachelor’s degree program at FUIST as an international student, in addition to meeting the University’s all other application requirements, he or she is required to have held a valid foreign passport for at least 4 years and have actually resided in a foreign country for at least 2 years in the past 4 years (as of April 30, 2022) (9 months of residence in a foreign country counts as a full year). The dates of the entry and exit stamps in the passport will be followed in the determination of the actual length of foreign residence). This requirement is also applicable to residents of the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan Hong Kong or Macao who have emigrated to a foreign country and obtained foreign citizenship and are applying to study in a bachelor's degree program at FUIST as international students.

5.High school diploma or Certificate of Expected Graduation, bearing the stamp of the school.
(1) High school diplomas should be certified by the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country.
(2) Graduating high school students should submit a Certificate of Expected Graduation, issued by their high schools. They should obtain a high school diploma before their entry to FUIST in September 2024.
(3) No certification is required for degree certificates obtained in the Chinese Mainland (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan).
(4) The originals of the diplomas and certification documents should be made available for verification upon enrolment at FUIST.
6.Academic transcripts for high school studies, bearing the stamp of the School.
(1) Graduating high school students should submit academic transcripts for each year of high school to date.
(2) High school graduates should submit a complete set of academic transcripts for high school.
(3) The results report of your national college matriculation exam or internationally accepted standardized tests, e.g., UEC/A Level/ AP/IB/ SAT/ACT.
7.Certification of English Proficiency.
Applicants who have taken all courses in English during their high school studies are exempt from certificate requirement, but a medium-of-instruction certificate from the high school should be furnished. Native English speakers are exempt from this requirement.
8.Personal statement (minimum 500 words), which should include a self-introduction, a description of one’s educational experience, motivations for studying in China and study plan. Applicants for English-medium programs are expected to deliver it in English.
9.Foreigner Physical Examination Form, completed in Chinese or English, bearing the stamp of the hospital. Physical examination results are valid for 6 months.
10.Financial Support Guarantee Statement and its supporting documents completed in Chinese or English, certifying that the applicant has sufficient funds to cover his or her tuition, accommodation, living expenses and international travels during his or her study in China. Only applicant himself/herself or his/her family can act as a financial sponsor. The Statement should be accompanied by a copy of the financial sponsor’s valid passport or identification certificate. Applicants for scholarships are not exempt from this requirement.
11.Certificate of No Criminal Record. The applicants shall submit a valid Certificate of No Criminal Record issued by the local police, usually within 6 months before the date of submission of the application.

(3) Pre-admission and registration fee payment
After qualification verification, we will send Letter of Pre-admission to New International Students, and the registration fee (No refund) and Bed reservation fee should be paid in time upon receipt of Letter of Admission, then scan the remittance sheet and send it to fuist-study@fzfu.edu.cn (Please indicate your name, contact information and other basic information in the e-mail).
(4) Documents delivering and payment
We will send the scanned copies of Letter of Admission and Confirmation Form for Study in China to your E-mail. Please remit tuition to the University’s bank account within the stipulated time, then scan the remittance sheet and send it to fuist-study@fzfu.edu.cn (Please indicate your name, contact information and other basic information in the e-mail) .
(5) Visa application
International students shall apply for visa to study in China at the Chinese embassy or consulate-general in their home country with a valid passport, the Letter of Admission, Confirmation Form for Study in China, and Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Please E-mail us which consulate you are applying for your visa and tell us the full name of the consulate).
(6) Registration
International students must register at FUIST at the time specified in the Letter of Admission along with the above-mentioned documents of visa and ten copies of 2-inch recent ID photos. Please note that if you take physical examination outside China, you shall take it again in Fuzhou at your own expense. To avoid the trouble that may be caused by the expired visa, please do not arrive in China too early. Please report your arrival to the University upon arrival.
2. Visa and insurance
(1) Visa. Students who have been admitted to the University shall take the Letter of Admission and Confirmation Form for Study in China to Chinese embassy to apply for X or F visa. If your program is more than six months, you shall apply for X1 visa and transit it into Residence Permit for Study within 30 days after landing in China with the help of International Students Office. If your program is within half a year, you shall apply for X2 visa.
(2) Insurance. Ministry of Education of P. R. China regulates that all the international students shall purchase medical insurance in China. For those who do not possess the required medical insurance, the University will not process his/her registration, please pay the insurance premium before entering China.

(1) Selection Criteria
For the first academic year, scholarships are assessed in the order of high school grades (GPA) and international students are required to pass the University entrance examination.
For the following academic year(s), the Comprehensive Assessment Achievements of the last academic year shall be taken as the criteria. Students who pass the examination are ranked based on the results, and those who fail the examination are turned into self-financed students.
(2)Note: Students won’t simultaneously get both University Scholarship and International Students Scholarship provided by the Fujian Province government.
